We consider therefore that it will be better

to defer any further increase until the Chief

Accountant has been appointed and has had time to

acquaint himself with the problems of Treasury

administration in Hong Kong, and we would urge the

necessity for the early appointment of this officer.

The cost of these proposals would be as

SECTION II.

SUPREME

COURT

REGISTRY.

1. We consider that one of the posts of

Deputy Registrar, Supreme Court, should be filled by

an Officer having the qualifications of a Chartered

Accountant which necessarily entail considerable

legal knowledge. To this officer would be assigned

those duties for the performance of which a knowledge of business accounting methods is specially required,

as for example, in connection with trusts,

administrations of estates and the winding up of

companies. He would also undertake general

supervision of the financial side of Court

administration. If such an officer is anpointed we

consider that there would be no necessitv for a

European Accountant of the Senior Clerical and Accounting Staff in the Registry.

We consider that the present salary of the
